Fire prevention at home
SPA donates smoke detector alarms to its employees
As part of its employee welfare initiatives, the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) in collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Services Agency (FRSA), recently organised a session for its staff on fire prevention.
Taking into account of the high incidences of house fires this year in the country, SPA decided that it would be a good idea to educate its employees on the importance of fire prevention to mitigate the risk factors that cause house fires. Another dimension of fire prevention is to reduce the potential loss of property which are considerable in cases of fires and severely impedes the work performance of individuals who are affected and ultimately on the productivity level of the company.
The session was attended by a majority of employees and Jones Madeleine, public relations officer at the FRSA, gave a very insightful exposé on the measures that should be taken to reduce the risk of house fires as well as immediate action which can make a big difference in preventing fires from spreading.
However, the most important measure which takes precedence in all fire cases is to inform the FRSA who relies on early alert to respond quickly and limit the damage as much as possible.
After the session, SPA donated a smoke alarm detector to every staff member as a first step towards reducing the risk of fires at their homes.
Staff were encouraged to take other measures to further eliminate the risks.
SPA’s chief executive, Lieutenant Colonel Andre Ciseau, reiterated the importance of fire prevention which if put into practice can help alleviate undue hardships and suffering on the victims of fire and on their families.
Mr Madeleine explained in details the advantages of the use of such a device in strategic locations inside the home as well as how to use and maintain it effectively.
