Tally Domingue best fire officer for 2013

on .

‘I love my job and my future is in the SFRSA’

Tally Domingue has been named the best fire officer for 2013 by the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA).

For the achievement, Miss Domingue received a cup and certificate from Minister for Home Affairs and Transport Joël Morgan in a short ceremony at the Seychelles Trading Company (STC) conference room earlier this week, during which the agency rewarded its other best officers for the year 2013.

The station officer, equivalent to the rank of inspector in the police force, and who is now head of the emergency and disaster management unit of the SFRSA, was along with a female colleague Catherina Laurence, the first firewoman to join the then Seychelles Fire Brigade back in 1987. Seven other young girls have since followed in their footsteps.

Miss Domingue explains why she thinks she has been named the best fire fighter for this year:

“I took up this profession since I graduated from the School of Humanities and Sciences of the Seychelles Polytechnic. I have never thought of any other occupation. I love my job and make the most of my ability to help the community as much as possible and ensure that the agency attains its objectives. I take part in all activities organised in the work place. So I think that my motivation, dedication and the time spent at work have helped me come out as the best.”

When asked for how many years more she thinks she will work as a fire officer, Miss Domingue said without the least hesitation that she has never thought of changing her career and that alongside her daily duties, she is even preparing a Master’s degree in her field of work.

“The agency is now developing in all aspects. As a fire officer you develop a high level of discipline and you learn a lot of skills. The job also offers a lot of prospects. For example, I am currently studying online for a Master’s degree in risk, crisis and disaster management with Leicester University in the United Kingdom. I love my job and my future is in the SFRSA. I have never thought of quitting,” the young fire officer said proudly.

And she concluded with a message for her peers who are hesitating to take fire fighting as a career.

“Some youths feel they are too smart to become a fire officer. But no one is too smart to save property and most of all no one is too smart to save lives.”
