Fire destroys upper floor of two-unit block flat at La Gogue
Fire completely destroyed the upper floor of a two-unit block flat at La Gogue yesterday morning, according to the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency.
In a press release issued late yesterday afternoon, the SFRSA said the other part of the flat remained intact.
The agency received the call at 10:14am and deployed a crew of eight fire fighters from the Victoria Fire Station, two fire tenders, as well a water bowser.
According to SFRSA’s public relations officer, Terence Arnephy, it took around five minutes to reach the scene, where fire fighters noticed the fire had completely engulfed the upper floor of one unit of the flat.
“Immediately there were efforts to protect the adjacent unit so as to prevent the flame from spreading and causing further damage,” said Mr Arnephy.
According to him, they took around 5 to 10 minutes to put the fire under control and an hour to completely extinguish it.
There were no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and an investigation is under way.
